Test and Measurement for Optical Components (TMOC)
An OIDA Community of Interest Group
The Test and Measurement for Optical Components (TMOC) group specifically addresses the high cost of testing in the optical component space. The range of discussion topics cover equipment cost, test time and automation, lifetime and burn-in testing and the extensive retest usually involved in component manufacture. This group brings together interested parties primarily from test equipment manufacturers, component and subsystem makers, and system OEMs, to align an acceptable but lower cost test methodology and process for high performance optical components.
A kick-off meeting for this Community of Interest (CoI) group was held on February 27 in San Diego, CA. The purpose of the meeting was to develop a plan for the formation and future of this group. Discussions addressed goals and expectations and future activities.

About OIDA Community of Interest (CoI) Groups
CoIs are special interest groups of OIDA members and non-members formed to address specific topics or problems for the industry. As with other OIDA activities, companies join, not individuals. A company may attend one meeting of a CoI free of charge, and may be on the email reflector for a group. However, for access to the restricted portion of the web site and to attend subsequent meetings, a company must either be an OIDA member or join the group as a CoI affiliate member.
A CoI is run and managed by its members. Each COI will have its own charter. Administrative and logistic activities will be provided by OIDA for reasonable activities. A CoI may levy an additional fee for membership with OIDA approval to generate more funds for its activities. For larger groups, OIDA may provide staffing as needed to facilitate the group's activities and to ensure OIDA neutrality.
For logistic and administrative support for a CoI, please contact David Iams (iams@oida.org). For other questions, or to start a new CoI, please contact David Huff (huff@oida.org).
